Scope: The National Security Law Department will host the 72nd National Security and Law of Armed Conflict Course (NSLOAC) from 27 February - 10 March. The course is designed to train junior officers to succeed in national security law assignments, whether in garrison or in a deployed environment. The target audience is junior to mid-grade CPTs who are currently in, or will soon start, their first national security law assignment, or are otherwise preparing for upcoming deployments or exercises.
Prerequisites: This course is intended for U.S. military (DoD & U.S. Coast Guard) attorneys who are expected to provide advice to commanders engaging in U.S. operations governed by the Law of Armed Conflict. Individuals who have completed this course, the Judge Advocate Officer Basic Course, or the Judge Advocate Officer Graduate Course within the preceding two years are not eligible to attend absent compelling circumstances (e.g., a pending deployment). Students may request an exception from the Chair, National Security Law Department, TJAGLCS. Paralegal NCOs pending assignment to a billet requiring knowledge of international or operational law are also encouraged to seek attendance using the application procedures outlined below. Applications from all federal agencies meeting these criteria are welcome; however, due to limited class size, priority will be given to U.S. military attorneys.
Course Application: Completing this Course Application does NOT guarantee you a seat in this course. Those individuals with appropriate eligibility criteria will be selected and sent an ATRRS registration form. However, due to allocated available seats in ATRRS, completion of the ATRRS registration form also does NOT guarantee a seat in the course. Early completion and submission of this Course Application is advised as priority will be given to the order in which applications are received.
All prospective Army students must complete this Course Application for approval or disapproval no later than 16 January 2023. Approved applicants will be notified for completion of ATRRS enrollment no later than 17 January 2023 (however, you may be contacted prior to this date to complete and return an ATRRS registration form).
