Mr. Lederer is the Deputy Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Coast Guard and was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in June 2002 after his retirement as a colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, U.S. Army. This lecture is in honor of Major General (Retired) Thomas J. Romig.

Lieutenant General Darpino served from 2013-2017 as the 39th Judge Advocate General of the United States Army. She was the first woman to hold that position.

Major General Gray served from 1993-1997 as The Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Army (now known as the Deputy Judge Advocate General or DJAG).

Professor David M. Crane

Sixteenth George S. Prugh Lecture in Military Legal History

Remarks delivered on April 21, 2023 by Professor David M. Crane for the Sixteenth George S. Prugh Lecture in Military Legal History, at The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School, Charlottesville, Virginia. Professor Crane served over 30 years in the U.S. government as both an active duty Army lawyer (retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel) and then in the Senior Executive Service as the Director of the Office of Intelligence Review, Department of Defense. He then was appointed by the Secretary General of the United Nations to be the founding Chief Prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone from 2002-2005, and later served as a member of the faculty of the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism, a joint venture with the Maxwell School of Public Citizenship at Syracuse University.
