The Student Detachment facilitates the Officer Basic Course which provides new Judge Advocates with the foundation for success as a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAGC) Team, imbued with the Warrior Ethos, and prepared to deliver mission-focused legal services to the Army and the Nation. Every course accomplishes this by providing students with a baseline of knowledge in our core practice areas (Military Justice, Administrative & Civil Law, Contract & Fiscal Law, National Security Law, Legal Assistance, and Claims) so that new Judge Advocates are qualified to immediately perform mission-focused legal services in a garrison or deployed environment. The course builds the officer's pride in the Army and the JAGC; builds a cohesive class to demonstrate principles of teamwork and leadership; builds and improves physical fitness; and inculcates the Warrior Ethos.
